Frequently Asked Questions

DOES SUGARING HURT?

Any time we are removing hair from your body there in some level of discomfort involved.

There are a few things you can do to help prevent unnecessary pain.

  1. Come in the middle of your cycle

  2. Take Advil/Tylenol 30 minutes before.

  3. Ensure the hair isn’t longer than 1/2 inch.

  4. You can purchase numbing cream at least one day before your appointment.

HOW LONG SHOULD MY HAIR BE?

Ideally for your first appointment the hairs are between 1/4 inch and half inch. This helps ensure all of the hair that grows in the area is above the surface. When we have been shaving our hair is all growing at different times so it is important to grow it out for 10-14 days before your appointment.

WHAT IF I CHICKEN OUT OF THE BRAZILIAN AND CHANGE MY MIND DURING THE APPOINTMENT?

No problem. it happens, it happened to me during my first one, but my sugarist removed all the hair from one side first so I had to stick it out.

I chose to do things differently, I remove the hair from the entire bikini line first, check in and move forward. This way, if your pain tolerance is low or your skin gets to warm everything is symmetrical and you can choose to come back in a few days to finish up or we can complete the rest or whatever you choose at your next appointment.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I BE COMING FOR SUGARING?

It is all based on the length of hair as it comes back. So long as its 1/4 inch you can come back. for most this lands anywhere between 4-6 weeks.

We are looking for a reduction of hair growing back so I don’t base it on the amount of hair, but rather the length.

CAN I GET IT DONE WHILE PREGNANT OR BREASTFEEDING?

YES! I can safely sugar during the entire pregnancy, it is important to know that as you get further along in your pregnancy, you are at a slightly higher risk for the skin to bruise due to the extra blood flow and the skin being stretched but it is rare. You may also be more sensitive, so starting sugaring in the bikini area near the end of your term is not ideal.

After giving birth it is important you are waiting 8 weeks to get sugared in the bikini area, no matter the type of delivery. I am happy to see you any time after 8 weeks.

INGROWNS.. WHAT A PAIN

I know about this all to well, and that is why I choose to carry a few different products to help with this. Ingrown hairs are less frequent with sugaring, however some people are more prone than others. It is important to be regularly exfoliating and moisturizing your skin. The hairs are going to grow and if they can’t get through the skin they will grown underneath..

IS THERE ANY MAINTAINANCE REQUIRED?

While there is some involved, it is minimal. The biggest thing is that you are able to keep your lashes dry and away from steam for 24hrs after your appointment. After that brushing them when you get out of the shower helps to keep them from sticking together during the day. I do recommend getting some aftercare products to help keep your lashes strong and healthy, and I recommend those on an individual basis, based on your needs.

HOW LONG DO THE RESULTS LAST?

Typically clients get 6 to 8 weeks out of each lash lift. With proper aftercare. It is safe to re-lift at 6 weeks but unless it is for a special event I like to wait 8 weeks so that I ensure I’m not damaging the natural lashes by processing the same section twice.

CAN I GET IT DONE WHILE PREGNANT OR BREASTFEEDING?

First off, every pregnancy is different, but it is not recommended to get it done during the first trimester. In the rare occasion you have a reaction, you aren’t able to take allergy medication to help relieve symptoms. I do have many clients that choose to get this done during pregnancy, but you should confirm with your doctor first and be able to comfortably lay on your back for about an hour.

I don’t recommend getting it done right after giving birth, hormones play a huge role in what kind of results we have and how long they last. Typically waiting 4 to 6 weeks for your hormones to level out is ideal.

WILL I BE ORANGE

Absolutely not! No Ross Geller’s are walking out of my studio. Also it is important to remember that spray tan solutions are nothing like they were in the 90’s. They have come a long way and are full of natural skin loving ingredients.

WHAT KIND OF PREP DO I NEED TO DO TO GET THE BEST SPRAY TAN?

This is easy, you want the freshest skin possible, so exfoliating and moisturizing in the days leading up to your tan are key. Your last moisturizing, exfoliating and hair removal should be done 24hours before your tan.

I’M BOOKING APPOINTMENTS BEFORE A BIG EVENT, WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW

It is important that your spray tan be the last of your appointments, so 24 hours after your nails (unless its just a polish change and no soaking, scrubbing), book any wax, sugar appointments for the day before as well. It is also ideal to have a spray tan done 2 days before your event. So Thursdays for a Saturday event.

I also highly recommend getting a trial tan done 1 month before your big event. this way we are able to get the perfect colour for the event as everyone’s skin takes the colour slightly differently.

WHAT IS THE BEST AFTERCARE

It is important to stay dry for 12 hours after a classic tan (so these are best booked in the evening). For a rapid tan you are able to shower 1-5 hours after your tan but it is important to know that your tan will be gone after that shower and re-appear in 24hours.

It is important to use a good natural lotion to keep your skin hydrated (I sell ones right from a spray tan company that smell amazing!).

Keep shaving to a minimum as it is a form of exfoliation and will cause the tan to fade faster in those areas.

Pools, hot tubs and excessive sweating will effect the longevity of your tan.

CAN I GET A SPRAY TAN WHILE PREGANT AND/OR BREASTFEEDING?

This is a personal choice and should be talked about with your doctor during pregnancy as every pregnancy is different.

If you are breastfeeding you will need to cover the breast during your appointment with a bra of your choice, as it is not safe for babies to be suckling on the area where there is a tan.

WHAT DO I WEAR?

This is a personal choice, you can choose to go completely nude or wear panties and/or bra bathing suit. This is a judgement free studio and I want you to feel comfortable. Many chose to wear thong type panties as they like to see the immediate results, but this also depends on if this is for an event where a specific dress or outfit it being worn and if any tan lines will be visible.

I HAVE HORRIBLE TAN LINES, WILL A SPRAY TAN FIX THEM?

In short, no, it will not completely get rid of them, however it will help blur them. It is important to always be wearing SPF while out in the sun to help protect your skin from damage and burns.
